Contour lines and cut clearance

The Profile Cut specs page sets out the technical detail behind shaped cuts and contour work. It covers file setup, cut lines, and production limits that matter on custom wall-art pieces.

Set Profile Cut files up with a named cut path on its own layer, separate from printed artwork and bleed. Tight inside corners, narrow bridges, and tiny drop-out shapes need checking before production, especially on PVC, acrylic, and composite wall-art panels used in South African interiors. For large pieces, allow for panel joins and handling space so the outline does not weaken during transport or installation.

Include one marked visual that shows the finished outer shape, not only the artwork. Installers and production staff use that reference to confirm where the cut edge sits against print, fixing points, and any stand-off hardware. A quick check here prevents trimmed logos, clipped text, or unsupported tabs on complex silhouettes.

What the spec must state

List the final size, substrate thickness, corner treatment, and whether the cutter follows a kiss-cut, through-cut, or router path. Note any minimum radius, bridge width, and keep-out area around holes or slots. Clear production notes matter on custom wall-art shapes where the printed face and the physical edge must line up exactly.

Cross-check artwork setup and substrate selection before releasing a shaped panel to production. If details are missing, use the contact form to send the final dimensions, material choice, and a marked-up preview of the cut outline. Add any packing or courier handling note where fragile points or long narrow sections could be damaged.

  • Cut path isolated from print layer
  • Minimum bridge widths checked on artwork
  • Mounting holes measured from cut edge

SA production checks that matter

Across Gauteng, KZN, and the Western Cape, shaped wall-art often travels further and gets handled more than square panels. That makes edge strength, pack direction, and material thickness important on oversized logos, map outlines, and decorative feature pieces. If a site has narrow lifts, stair turns, or restricted loading access, note that before finalising the cut profile.

In Cape Town and Durban, salty air can lift edges on some adhesive films and can mark exposed MDF if the seal coat is skipped. Gauteng dust settles into routed grooves, so the spec should note cleaning access on detailed shapes. Load-shedding also matters where long cutter runs, laminate bonding, or late installation windows are part of the job.

Information needed for approval

Send the spec with final artwork scale, material, thickness, and any areas that must remain uncut. Mention previous break points, chipped corners, or alignment issues if this is a revision of an existing wall-art piece.

Keep the approved profile visual with the production file, print proof, and installation notes. When a buyer or decorator asks for sign-off, they should be able to compare the cut outline, overall dimensions, and fixing method without opening several separate documents.
