Wall Mock specs

Setup notes and briefing numbers for Wall Mock.

Wall measurements that affect previews

Wall Mock specs sets out the file and measurement details needed for accurate wall previews. Teams can align dimensions, viewing angles and placement references before approval is given.

Wall Mock specs records the exact dimensions that drive a usable preview, including full wall width, visible height, skirting, cornices and fixed fittings. Measurements work best when taken from finished surfaces rather than old plans. In South African homes and commercial interiors, alcoves, bulkheads and plug points often change the final artwork position.

Keep the first elevation photo with the final mock file and measurement note. That image should show skirting height, cornice line, plug points and any bulkheads that affect artwork placement. On larger SA fit-outs, one labelled reference image often prevents scale drift between approval and installation.

Files needed for Wall Mock

The spec pack should include the artwork file name, final print size, crop direction and intended finish for each piece shown in the preview. Stating whether the piece is framed, stretched canvas, wallpaper panel or direct print prevents the mock from showing the wrong depth. A marked-up layout is useful when several artworks share one wall.

Before sign-off, match the preview against the approved dimensions, room photo and installation height noted for site. Record any changes to scale after client review so the latest version is easy to track.

  • Full wall width and usable height
  • Straight-on photo with scale reference
  • Installation height noted from finished floor level

Site conditions that alter scale

Many South African spaces have features that interrupt a clean artwork run, such as DB boards, aircon trunking, wall lights and deep skirtings. Older buildings in Johannesburg and Cape Town often have walls that are not perfectly square, which affects centred layouts. These details should be marked before the mock is approved.

Light also shifts how a preview reads on screen compared with the installed piece. Coastal rooms in Durban and the Cape can have strong side light and moisture exposure, while inland sites may show more glare from large windows. Note whether the wall is mainly viewed head-on, from a passage or across a reception area.

Approval notes for each wall

Each wall should carry its own reference name, room location and revision note so nobody installs from an outdated preview. Include any client instruction about margins, spacing between frames or alignment to furniture.

Keep the final mock together with the measured sketch, artwork references and sign-off comments for that specific area. When the buyer or installer checks the job later, the file shows what was approved, where it sits and how the size was derived.
