Demo Path

A straightforward workflow for wall art demos in South Africa, written for decor teams who already know the basics.

Demo sample route on site

Demo Path sets out a practical route for sample wall-art work, trial layouts and presentation pieces. It is used when a client wants to see scale, finish or placement before the full job moves ahead.

Begin with the actual wall build, not the artwork file. Painted plaster, brick, glass, and wrapped boards take colour and adhesion differently, especially in Durban humidity or dry Highveld interiors. For a Demo Path, the point is to test size, finish, glare, and viewing distance before the full wall-art set is produced.

A phone photo from the doorway is useful, but a straight-on image with one measured reference is better. Add ceiling height, nearby lighting, and any switches, counters, or skirtings that affect placement. Those details help the sample piece reflect the room clients will stand in, not an idealised layout.

What the demo must show

The demo should answer one decision at a time. It may test print scale on a reception wall, compare matte vinyl against canvas, or check whether a framed piece sits correctly above furniture. Written notes need to record the chosen size, edge treatment, and where the sample was viewed.

Use Demo Path before expanding into a wider roll-out. Match the trial piece to the relevant substrate, confirm the final artwork version, and label the sample clearly for transport or storage. Share a photo of the space and the print finish you like, and the studio will plan the piece.

  • Sample piece sized for the actual wall
  • Wall photo with one fixed measurement
  • Email thread kept with artwork version

Site conditions that change demos

A mock-up for a Sandton office does not behave like one for a Umhlanga apartment or a Cape Town retail window. Sun direction, air moisture, access hours, and branding rules can all alter the sample choice. Mention if lifts are small, parking is restricted, or installers need after-hours entry.

Coastal sites often need extra attention on laminate edges, mounting methods, and cleaning instructions. Inland projects can show dust quickly on dark finishes and acrylic faces under spotlights. Load-shedding also affects print scheduling, proof checks, and the time available for on-site fitting.

Notes to file after viewing

Brief Demo Path with wall photos, measurements, timing, and what has already failed. Keep the subject line clear.

Capture the note while the wall photos, measured widths, and print version are still in front of you. Attach it to the project brief with artwork references, finish choice, and placement marks so the buyer can review one clear record before sign-off.
