Commissioning
A clear process for wall art commissioning in South Africa, written for decor teams who already work with site realities.
How Commissioning works on an actual project week
Commissioning sets out the final checks before a wall-art project is signed off for use. It covers fitment review, artwork accuracy and site readiness so the completed work matches the approved brief.
Commissioning starts with the installed piece, not the concept board. We check wall dimensions against the approved file, inspect trimming and joins, and note whether paint cure, glazing glare, lighting position, or fixing points could affect sign-off. On South African sites this often includes access limits in lifts, generator periods during load-shedding, and moisture exposure in coastal rooms.
Take the first set of commissioning photos before any touch-ups or rehangs happen. Wide room views, close shots of corners, and one image with a tape measure visible help separate a print issue from a site issue. That record matters when a panel is swapped, a frame is reset, or an installer reports damage after unpacking.
Sign-off pack for installed work
The commissioning record should name the final artwork version, print size, substrate, trim detail, and hanging height used on site. Include any snags still open, such as a scratched frame edge, a visible seam under side light, or vinyl lifting near a damp patch. Decor teams can then sign off what is in the room rather than what was approved earlier.
Before handover, match the installed pieces to the latest marked-up approval and the delivery count. Check labels on wrapped items, inspect spare prints, and note whether any offcuts or replacement panels must stay on site for future maintenance.

Checks before final sign-off
Commissioning in Gauteng offices differs from commissioning in Cape Town hospitality spaces or Durban coastal apartments. Air movement, humidity, afternoon glare, and security access times can change how wall art reads once the room is in use. Mention brand standards, landlord rules, and any no-drill restrictions before the final inspection is booked.
Vinyl and laminated prints need a close look where air-conditioning vents, sun, or fresh paint may affect adhesion. Framed works should be checked for corner damage, backing board fit, and reflections under the actual installed lighting. Where power interruptions affect lifts or access control, note the completed areas separately so partial handovers are clearly recorded.

Information to send for commissioning
Send the Commissioning brief with wall sizes, room photos, deadlines, and any print or installation issue already found on site.
Send the commissioning brief with room names, wall sizes, installed photos, and the approved artwork references used for print. Add any issues found during packing, transport, or fitment, including chipped frames, banding, colour shifts, or missing hardware. That gives the sign-off review a fixed record tied to the exact pieces on site.
