Print Prep

Print Prep covers the file work that happens before wallpaper, vinyl, or panel artwork goes to print. It includes scale, bleed, crop marks, panel breaks, and checks against the measured wall so South African décor teams send usable production files.

Scale, bleed, and panel setup

Print Prep is where we line up artwork before it reaches production for wallpaper, vinyl, or other wall finishes.

Begin with the final wall size, substrate choice, and visible obstacles such as bulkheads, plug points, cornices, and window reveals. For wallpaper and vinyl, artwork must be enlarged to the installed size with enough bleed for trimming on site. Cape Town humidity, Durban coastal conditions, and Gauteng site dust can all affect finish selection and how graphics are handled before fitting.

A good print pack starts with the latest site image and measured drawing. Include the artwork version, finished dimensions, panel order, and any crop area that may sit behind joinery or signage. That record helps prevent mirrored files, missing margins, or a logo landing on a seam.

Files ready for production

The output from Print Prep is a production file that names the size, material, scale, and layout clearly. Artwork is checked for resolution, colour mode, repeat alignment, and whether text or key imagery sits too close to trim edges. One accurate file pack is more useful on site than a chain of partial approvals.

Check the substrate note and design references before changing panel widths or enlarging a pattern beyond its source quality. Then confirm the wall measure, file version, and packed artwork one last time before release to print. Share a photo of the space and the print finish you like, and the studio will plan the piece.

  • Panel order marked before printing starts

Site conditions that affect output

Print Prep must account for apartment lifts, office access times, retail opening dates, and hospitality installation windows across Gauteng, KZN, and the Western Cape. Some projects arrive with agency artwork, brand rules, or archived files that need checking before any resizing happens. Separate urgent reprints from larger décor planning so the production file is not built from mixed instructions.

Coastal moisture can influence the material specified for wall graphics and the way printed pieces are stored before installation. Inland sites often bring dust, patch repairs, and uneven plaster lines that matter when setting crop and bleed. Load-shedding can interrupt printing and finishing, so approved files should be complete before the run is booked.

Scale Checks Before Output

Send measured wall dimensions, clear site photos, intended material, and any non-negotiable brand elements. Note existing problems such as low-resolution art, previous colour mismatch, or a join that showed too strongly on the last install.

Save the prep notes with the final artwork package while the measurements, approval comments, and panel plan are still easy to trace. Keep it with the project brief and artwork references when sign-off is needed for print.
